AMADA celebrated its 50th anniversary at the FABTECH 2021 showroom press conference held on September 14, 2021 in McCormick Place, Chicago, and showcased many high-tech manufacturing equipment and software. Here are some of the contents displayed by the company.

According to the company, the BREVIS 1212 AJ fiber laser is a compact, production-quality laser. It has high-speed laser cutting, easy material loading and a flexible Z-axis, which can process parts up to 200 mm. BREVIS is designed for manufacturing flexibility, with the goal of multi-variety, small-batch production-the maximum sheet size is 4 x 4'(1.22 x 1.22 m). According to the company, the system’s fiber laser oscillator greatly helps reduce power costs.

The 3kW single-diode module fiber laser engine provides high-quality beam parameter product (BPP). The laser mode and BPP will be automatically optimized according to the thickness of the material being cut. BREVIS can process a wide range of materials from thin to thick without changing the lens, and can cut copper, brass, titanium and special types of metals to form flat and 3D shapes.

AMADA also showcased its EG 4010, a compact all-electric bending machine for the production of small sheet metal parts that require high precision. A key feature of the EG series is its high-speed dual-servo power (DSP) drive system. According to the company, the two AC servo motors allow EG to achieve fast approach, bend and return speeds, thereby reducing part cycle time—and thus producing more parts per hour.

The EG series is also equipped with a thickness detection system (TDS) to maintain bending accuracy when processing materials with different types, thicknesses and grain directions. TDS reads changes in material thickness and automatically compensates for the depth position to ensure accurate bending results.

AMADA demonstrated its latest EML-AJ series punch/fiber laser combination machine EML-2512AJ at the exhibition through a live broadcast of its Schaumburg Solution Center.

AMADA pointed out that its EML-AJ series combined machine has all the punching functions inherent in a single-function punch. The combined punch and die are equipped with a Z turret of different diameters with a diameter of ø1010 mm upper and lower ø1200 mm or a high-capacity turret with ø1200 mm upper and lower. These machines include the same 300 kN punching force as AMADA's EM series turret punch presses. The processing area of EML-2515AJ is 3050 x 1525 mm.

Compared with traditional machines, the EML-AJ series has also achieved a 25% increase in stroke frequency (beats per minute), making it the fastest punch processing machine provided by AMADA. Pairing EML AJ with automatic die/die changer (PDC) can provide continuous, high-speed machining.

Also displayed on the floor is AMADA's Fiber Laser Welding Machine (FLW), which is a robot welding machine that can realize high-speed and high-quality welding. FLW 3000 ENSIS is a complete welding solution, equipped with automatic beam focusing, a patented rotating lens and a teaching aid system that uses a camera to prevent deviation from the target welding path. The wire feeding system enables FLW to switch from fusion welding to adding filler wire in the same program for efficient part processing. The feature of the demonstration is the versatility of a 2-axis positioning table synchronized with the robot.

According to AMADA, the biggest advantage of FLW over traditional welding is that the speed and heat in the welding zone are the least. The company said that fiber laser welding is 5 times faster than TIG welding, with higher welding strength and almost no distortion.
